Who/What is being represented in the opening?

The first thing being represented is Scottish myths and a typical Scottish family who own a kingdom. With a young girl who does not want to be conformed to her families traditions. 

How is this being represented?

The Scottish myths are being represented by the strong Scottish accent with the shots of the stones and mystical mountains, with the blue mist s this all adds to the mystery. The typical Scottish family is being represented by them all having ginger hair sitting round a large wooden table eating meat, we can tell they are Scottish not just buy their actions but the shots of the woodlands and lakes. The presentation of the young girl who does not want to inform to her families traditions is being presented by her slumping  in the chair talking about wanting freedom

Is there evidence of Dyer or Barthes’ theories in this opening? Justify, using detailed examples.

There are hints of Barths theory in 'Brave' for example the magical blue mist in Scotland- Scotland is stereotypical very nitty gritty so for the blue mist makes Scotland see magical full of wonder which is far from the truth, although beautiful there is no magic-this makes 'Brave' seem fluffy and magical. 

Peer Anaylsis- Juno

Charlotte    Benjy   Ben	Most of the shots where pretty good apart from the shakiness of them. You could tell that the camera was hand held.	The editing effects are used well, they used dissolve to get the right shot of the feet they also used the colour emboss to make it more like the original which is very effective.	They were filming outside so the only lighting they used was natural.	The overall video is great, it is very similar to the original, you can tell that they took a lot of time to produce this. The only thing i suggest is to find a stabiliser for the camera.
Lara       Dom	The very first shot is very shaky, its hard to focus on Dom with his head being cropped out of the shot. Apart from this the shots are very still and focused, with each shot close to that of the original it is very good.	The cartoon effect that they used is very effective, they have taken into consideration the original clip and reproduced this on their own. They also used the slow motion tool, although it does not suit some aspects of the Juno opening it is appropriate for others, they seem to have mastered this concept very well.	They were filming outside so the only lighting they used was natural.	The overall video is mixed they have great shots with the correct length of the original but they also have some scenes in the wrong order, this is a small mistake that they could easily rectify. All in the piece is good, small adjustment need to be made in order for it get better.
Sarah  George  Kaitlyn	Compared to others the very first shot is extremely stable is obvious they used a stabiliser.  They also put in the extra detail for example 'the runner' this is not in any other clips, so its refreshing to see they considered the original. The only thing I would suggest is the ending, which is very abrupt, if they managed to smoothed it then it would be fantastic.	They editing their piece well; the shots were well timed and considered the original. They used an effect witch made the clip more of a cartoon than it would be if the effect was not used.  They also used different transitions to break up the shots which I thought was done effectively.	They were filming outside so the only lighting they used was natural.	The overall video was the best I have seen. Its precise timing along with with the different transitions brought the clip all together, the fact that they timed it along to the original helped tremendously  One thing they could improve on was the smoothness of the ending. It ended abruptly  if this was smoother the clip would be amazing.
James B  Megan	Like the others the others some shots are very shaky, this shows that a stabiliser was not used during the making. One shot due to the shaking Megan's head was cut of for a small duration however the shots were clear and precise, mimicking that of the original.	They used one effect called 'push' for the foot shot. Apart from that I do not think they used any other effect.	They were filming outside so the only lighting they used was natural.	Overall I think the clip was a good effort, they found an effect that worked for what they wanted. They had the shots in the correct order and for the right amount of time. Overall a good job.

Juno Opening Sequence reflection

What did you learn about filming and editing?

I learnt that when using the camera the holder must have a stable hand, as evident in our film most shots are very shaky due to the fact that we had nothing stable holding the camera. We also found it extremely difficult to get the precise shots for the right amount of time, we kept referring to the video to make sure we had the correct angles. We also learnt what shots were needed when for example 'long shot', 'extreme close up' and 'mid long shot' to name a few. I also learnt that it easier to have over shot and cut it then to have under shot and go out and re shoot.

Did you use any useful effects?

Whilst editing we only used one effect, 'Cineon Converter' this effect made the clip more of a cartoon which mimicked the Juno opening.

What went well in terms of editing?

In terms of editing there was a lot of cropping and moving clips about because we filmed out of sequence so we had to move clips to the correct part of the sequence. We tried to get the clip length and accuracy of the shot as close to the opening of Juno as possible, this was very time consuming because we had to watch the Juno clip then watch ours and figure out what bits need cutting. At this point we were very lucky to have overshot so we had enough footage, it was also another change to get to grips with using Premiere and all its features.

What could of gone better?

I feel that the transition of our Juno could of gone better. Our shots jump from one to the next. The Juno trailer shots despite or slide into one and other. We were unable to tilt left and right and pan. Another thing that could of gone slightly better is the cameras stillness. Most shots were very shaky, we could of used a stabiliser to keep the shots still.

Institutions

Stereotypical interpretations.

In the beginning of the clip two things are being represented; the 'engagement hype' and 'bridezilla syndrome'. This is being represented by the girls screaming frantically hugging, planning their big day together as best friends. This is very stereotypical of getting married- money has suddenly appeared- this is so unrealistic most couples unless in a very fortune situation have so save up for years for their perfect wedding while in film they have cash instantly. Another example of Barthes theory of media being fluffy is the perfect wedding with your child hood best friend, its so very unlikely that two girls remain friends from young childhood to adulthood. 

'Legally Blonde' BARTHES theory analysis.

Right at the beginning of the clip you are shown blond hair and a woman's nails that are perfectly manicured, this shows that its easy to get the perfect hair and nails, showing Barthes theory of films becoming lovey dovey in the perfect world.
As you see the boys fighting, they are young, fit and good looking, this shows another stereotypical part of films; all boys should be young and fit, again supporting Barthes theory of films being romanticised. As the girl cycles past and the boys shout and whoop at her, this suggests that all boys find young thin girls attractive, this is stereotypical of films they do not have someone of average looks or size because this would sell.
The shot where she is painting her nails surrounded by make up brushes and pink fluffy things again shows the stereotypical view of girls, or the 'perfect' girl so to speak, the flowers also suggests this.
  The shot in the gym again shows that girls should work out to be perfect and that it is a necessity of life, the woman holding the small weights shows that girls cant hold/handle the larger weights this again is a very good example of Bathes theory showing that girls are fragile beings and shouldn't be given harder objects/tasks.
On the girls desk you notice blond hair dye on her desk, this again shows how girls fantasise about being blonds and will go to dye their hair to get the desired 'look'. Another great example of Bathes theory of films.
  Notice how most girls are wearing a shade of pink or hearts this again is a stereotypical look on a girl-fluffy headed that loves pink, another example is the girls in the bathroom in their underwear, it is very common in films for girls  to be applying make up or doing their hair in their underwear because is suggests their vulnerability, they are also wearing matching sets, showing they are organised and make a conscious effect into their underwear another representation of the 'perfect' girl.
Also notice how the song through out is very girly and stereotypical of a 'slumber party'.
