Art Of The Title

The point of the Title sequence is to show the audience the main characters whether this be in a film or television program. It also sets the scene for the audience, showing the tone for the show/film and presenting the genre within the program.
The films featured in the 'A Brief History of The Art of the Title Sequence' include Lady In the Lake, Anatomy of a Murder and Sherlock Homes.
Anatomy of a Murder uses an image of an old fashion outline of a body unattached from the limbs, by using this it portrays to the audience the genre of this program.

Vertigo is an extremely effective title sequence. The title is white placed on top of a eye, the whole image is red apart from the title making it more effective and prominent of the screen the typography lifts to showcase a spiral reeling in the eye, the hypnotic sense links to the title 'vertigo' meaning hazed or dizzy.
The redness of the picture foreshadows/suggests murder or a significant event in the program along with the hypnotic sense the program suggests to center around danger- it also suggests that the main character or one of them will have be an unwilling participant to the events that unravel.

Bullitt is also very effective. Bullitt is in black and white suggesting that this film is very old or has been done to show that the characters or the film itself are easy to read and you are able to tell what SIDE they are on. With the title being placed in-front of four men shows that these men will be the main vocal point in the film. With the men in the shadows it shows and the title prominent it shows that the characters may be shady may suggest a gangster film.

BRAZIL
"The optical effects in Brazil have quite a timeless quality to them. I did not consciously set out to create something so lasting. It was more of a serendipitous happening."
The only typography is 'Brazil' in neon lights with a exotic font. The visual imagery is very simple, it looks like your flying or floating above the sky, the 'happy go lucky' feeling along with the relaxing music, the explosions severs that 'happy feeling'.After the explosions occurs the typical horror/thriller music comes in.

SWEENEY TODD

"Animating blood and its movement became the most crucial and challenging element of the sequence. We had to build special platforms within which we imitated blood movement and filmed it. And we had to give it this comical feel, which worked really well."
Typography-By using a font that gives the film an authentic look, it shows the audience it was set in an older period possibly the 1900's, the white text on top of a black background suggests darkness in the film, (death) this could also be supported by the red running throughout the title sequence which represents blood. This portrays the genre to the audience.
Visual Imagery-Again the dripping of the blood shows that the film will be quite sinister, it almost foreshadows the events in the film, we are already able to tell that people will be hurt/murdered. This wary feel can link to the menacing title Sweeney Todd:The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street.
Elements of Sound- The music is very much like an orchestra  slow, sinister music with an obvious string effect. This type of music is very similar for a horror style feel; it builds the audience up heightening their awareness of the forthcoming events.
