Opening sequence analysis- Jennifer's body(Horror)

Camera Shots                                                                                                                                              The first shot in this scene is a two shot close up, of Jennifer and Colin kissing giving the audience a false scene of security thinking it would be a love scene. The next shot is a single close up of Jennifer face showing the changing of her eyes, showing the audience what the scene will actually focus on.Then another close up of Collin's face showing his reaction to her change.A medium shot is then used to show the cutting of Collin's hand and then both. A long shot then shows the physical power of Jenifer. In this scene there are a variety of different shots to show the scene and emotions of each character.

Mise en Scene                                                                                                                                            The costumes are very basic, it is the scenery this is effective, the sheets, small candles with work boards all add to the eeriness horror of the scene. The two actors really make this scene. The male shows how frightened and scared he is while the women shows her supernatural side. The changing of eyes, the fangs and deformation of the body shows that their is a more sinister  side to the film/character. The scenery and minimal costumes suit both the movie and the scene, by keeping it minimal the whole focus is on the characters and murder that is about to ensue.

Sound                                                                                                                                                         Unlike the comedy the horror has a sinister music with a deep base feel, the sharpness of the  cutting(diegetic) sound adds to the creepiness of the scene, the cracking of the bones is also very sharp giving the audience a physical pain factor that they (the audience) could relate too. The slithering sound when her eyes change give the audience not only an image in which they can see but the sound helps them to relate to her physical being. Most of the sounds only the audience could here (non-diegetic). There are on screen sounds as well as off, we can see him cut his hand(on screen sound). As Collin is ripped apart by Jennifer there is a deep base music to add to the ambiance. The ego of Jennifer's voice 'I need you helpless' puts the audience in Collins mental/physical state so we( the auidence) become Collin, it shows us how he is disoriented due to the braking of his bones and been thrown to the floor.

Editing

There is minimal editing in this clip, it adds to the fast pace/thrilling sequence that this scene entails, if there was fancy transitions for example dissolving pixels it would take the attention away from the chaos, the minimal transitions help the scene, they were used affectedly so the attention is all on the killing.
